Our first Karma Company is Etsy, Inc.
Etsy runs a number of marketplaces that allow, primarily, smaller-scale creatives and vintage sellers to market and sell their creations. Etsy allows people to earn money doing the things they would very likely continue to do if money weren't a consideration.
Etsy contributes to a world where individuals can work as their hearts desire. They contribute to a world where items are unique and special.
Sellers are offered independence. They don't need to manufacture at high scale, for example, and they don't need to establish relationships with sales channels. They can focus on the product and the product alone.
Buyers feel stronger connections with hand-made and hand-wrapped items. With a stronger emotional attachment to our things, we are more appreciative of the world around us.
Etsy is transparent.
Their fees are fair. Their platform charges a small listing fee and a 5% commission on sales, which is clearly stated and generally non-prohibitive. Sellers can pay an additional fee for advertising assistance.
Etsy understands that their greatest asset is their brand.
They have spent the better part of two decades signaling their values and establishing trust with their users. Etsy understands karma.
